Let your imagination run free in Ville Vau

Wander through fairy-tale worlds, dress up in handcrafted costumes, explore sensory-rich play spaces, and bring your own magical stories to life.

Ville Vau consists of several spacious oases designed for play, filled with fantastic costumes and exciting props. Let your imagination run free and discover new ways to explore creativity. Ville Vau is open to all children accompanied by an adult.

Each adult may bring a maximum of four children at a time. Please note that at certain times on weekends and during holidays, there may be a short wait to enter Ville Vau.

Every weekend, Ville Vau offers a variety of activities for the whole family to enjoy. Ask upon arrival, and our hosts will be happy to guide you.

The studio

In Ville Vau’s studio, children and adults alike can let their creativity unfold.

We work with the art of “mending and making do” – a tradition H.C. Andersen’s father taught his son. It is about gathering old things and giving them new life. In the studio, we transform toilet rolls, book pages, and scraps of fabric into new works of art.

In June and July, you can create flowers in the studio at H.C. Andersens Hus. H.C. Andersen loved flowers, and he had a talent for turning the contents of his wastepaper basket into art. In the spirit of H.C. Andersen, you can transform old book pages into flowers.

If you wish to, you can leave your flower behind, and artist Betina Følleslev will plant it in a large greenhouse at Gråbrødre Torv during the H.C. Andersen Festivals. There, you will be able to find your flower growing wondrously among the others, just like in H.C. Andersen’s story “The Story of a Mother”.

International Summer Program in Ville Vau

From 12.00 – 12.30: Workshop: “Little fairytales”.

Create your own character and join an improvised fairy tale.
Come with us out into the countryside, up to the castle, or deep into the forest – no one knows where we will end up when Ville Vau’s facilitators let their imagination run wild. The fairytales are always new and based on the characters and costumes that the guests wear. You decide which character you want to be, and during the fairytale the facilitator assists you with words and gestures.

From 12:00 – 15:00: Drop-in Creative Workshop: Forget-me-not.

Create a book of floral collages inspired by your summer memories.
During Hans Christan Andersen’s travels, he collected flowers and kept them as quiet reminders of the places he visited and the experiences he had. Inspired by his fairy tale The Silent Book, you are invited to create your own personal memory book for the summer. Together, we will make delicate flower collages inspired by summer moments, bind the pages into a handmade book, and help you find your own artistic expression. At the end of the workshop, you can take your book home so it can continue to grow throughout the summer.
