Purpose

Museum Odense’s personal data policy aims to provide an overview of which information we collect, what we use the information for, and how it is stored.

According to data protection legislation (the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the Danish Data Protection Act), you have the right to be informed about Museum Odense’s processing of your personal data. As the data controller responsible for receiving and processing personal information, Museum Odense collects data for a range of different purposes and ensures that personal information is processed in accordance with applicable legislation.

Which Information Is Collected

Museum Odense does not process sensitive personal data when tickets, annual passes, or gift cards are purchased. Ordinary personal information such as name, address, phone number, and email address is collected primarily to fulfill the agreement entered into between Museum Odense and its guests—for example, when purchasing annual passes, online tickets, or products from the webshop.

When you visit the museum’s websites, purchase access to events, buy online tickets, or participate in our activities—including competitions—we collect the information you choose to provide.

If you use social media such as Instagram, Facebook, or X (formerly Twitter), and you actively engage by liking, sharing, tagging, using hashtags, or commenting on one of our museum profiles, information about your online activity may be collected.

Museum Odense collects, processes, and stores the following types of information about you:

  • Name, address, phone number, email address
  • Payment information
  • Passwords
  • Customer number
  • IP address

Some of this information is collected through cookies (see the section on cookies).

Your personal data is stored for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected and until the agreement has been completed. However, for annual passes, data is stored for an additional three months after the expiration date to make it easier to renew a previous membership. Documentation and storage requirements under the Danish Accounting Act mean that we retain information about financial transactions for five years in accordance with bookkeeping legislation.

If you make a charitable donation to Museum Odense, sensitive personal data—specifically your Danish CPR number—is collected. The CPR number is collected so that Museum Odense can report the donation to the Danish Tax Agency (SKAT), allowing you to receive your tax deduction. Your CPR number is handled confidentially in a secure data system and used solely for reporting purposes to SKAT.

Data Protection

When you make a purchase in our webshop, you provide the following information:

Name, address, phone number, and email address.

We record personal data in order to deliver the purchased item to you. Personal data registered by Museum Odense is stored for a maximum of five years, after which the information is deleted.

We also use the information to send you reminders about your visit and other relevant information.

Partners, Including the Use of Data Processors

Your information is not shared with third parties; however, in certain cases, your personal data may be transferred to external partners. This only occurs when we ask partners to process the data on our behalf. It is done strictly according to our instructions, and the data processors are not permitted to use the information for any other purpose. We enter into written agreements with the data processors, who are bound by confidentiality and required to comply with data protection legislation.

The use of cookies

Museum Odense uses cookies on our websites, including shop.museumodense.dk, hcandersenshus.dk, denfynskelandsby.dk, tidmuseum.dk, and museumodense.dk.

Cookies thus allow the collection of data on how visitors navigate the website. A cookie is a passive file and does not collect personal data, spread viruses, or other harmful programs.

Museum Odense uses cookies to improve our websites and webshop by analyzing how they are used by our guests. Cookies also ensure the correct processing of orders on the webshop.

Your rights

You have the right to access the information that Museum Odense has registered about you. If you wish to have your personal data deleted, to limit Museum Odense’s processing of it, or to object to our processing, you can contact us. We will delete your personal data unless it needs to be retained for other reasons, such as requirements under the Danish Accounting Act.

You also have the right to file a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet) if you are dissatisfied with the way we handle your personal data. You can find their contact information at www.datatilsyn.dk, where you can also learn more about your rights.
